Learn About Your DNA

Saturday – June 16, 2018 – 1:00 p.m.
We will have our second lesson on Genetic Genealogy.   We’ll learn about what DNA testing can tell you and review the attributes of the various DNA tests available.  We will meet at a private residence, and the lesson will take about 1/2 hour.  Send us an e-mail to find out the address where we will be meeting.

Learn About Your DNA

Meade County Genealogical Society

The Meade County Genealogical Society is now on Facebook.  Please take a moment to look at our page and like us.  We hope to use this as a major information source for the society and let people know what we are all about and some of the activities we’re involved in.

Also take a moment to look at the MCGS link in this Kansas GenWeb website and find out what’s going on in 2018.  Our year has been planned, and we look forward to learning more and doing more  genealogy.  Another thing we’re hoping to get going is a DNA Learning Group.  Many people have sent in their DNA, gotten their results back, and then think “What do I do with this now?”  We are hoping to find the answers to our questions together.  Stay tuned for more information on this.

Addition of Records – Marriage, Obituaries

I added Marriage Records for 1941 today.

I also added Obituaries from 1980 – 2010 as well as a Master Index covering 1885 – 2010.  These obituaries can be found by going to the Meade Public Library website and clicking on “Genealogy.”

Addition of Records – Obituaries

I am in the process of adding obituary records.  This has been an ongoing collaborative effort between the Meade County Historical Society, the Meade County Genealogical Society, and the Meade Public Library.  Currently, we have 1885 – 1929  (These are obituaries that were printed in any and all Meade County newspapers.)  These obituaries can be found by going to the Meade Public Library website and clicking on “Genealogy.”

Addition of Records – Marriage, Military

I completed Marriage Records for 1940 today.  I have added January through mid-May 1941.

I have recently begun putting on a Meade County Probate Records Index.  I’ve also started adding Civil War Veterans Buried in Meade County.  This will also include the units the veterans served in.
